Title I, Part A: Fair-Mont-Egan School Program
Fair-Mont-Egan School (FME) supports a Foster Care Program. The Foster Care Program is intended to “ensure that children and youth in foster care have equal access to the same free, appropriate public education as provided to their peers living with biological parents or a legal guardian.”
Title I, Part A: Educational Rights for Foster Care Students
Students in foster care have the right to:
Receive a free, appropriate public education
Enroll and attend school immediately, even if unable to provide records required for enrollment
Timely school records transfers
Receive educational services comparable to those provided to other students, according to the child’s needs
Stay in the school of origin (when feasible and in the child’s best interest)
Receive transportation to and from the school of origin
Title I, Part A: Best Interest Determination for Foster Care Students
A collaborative team made up of a school official and the state child welfare agency is formed to promote educational success and stability. This team will create a Best Interest Determination at the time of student placement.
